What to expect from us:
The
experience to help you avoid unintended consequences, and
You need someone to help
you spot them, not gloss over them.
Advice
and perspective from someone with no agenda other than yours
You’re
an executive. That means you control outcomes and resources. Some
folks would like to influence those outcomes….they have vested
interests. Other folks would like to exploit some of those
resources….more vested interests. You can ask those folks for their
input and advice, but you know you will have to “filter” their biases
out of their responses.
Now,
imagine someone who has broad business experience, and imagine that they
also have an understanding of you personally, your company, competitors,
board of directors – and you could talk with this person confidentially
whenever you wanted to.
Executives need confidants. The problem is, most folks have no grasp of
“confidential”, and even fewer people have the ability to do more than
just listen. You don’t need someone’s ear, you need their advice –
advice from someone who understands your world and has nothing to gain
from you – no hidden agendas.
What
you need is a sounding board and an advocate, someone who can serve as
your own personal board of directors. You are in the position to impact
the lives of many people, suppliers, subordinates, competitors, the list
goes on. You no doubt take that responsibility seriously, and know that
sometimes the decisions are tough – and it would be great to be able to
safely “bounce some ideas” off of someone. That’s why we’re here.
About
those Sound Bites and Easy Answers – whether it’s getting
a sports star acquitted or a public official elected, isn’t it
frustrating to see a catchy phrase make more difference than the facts?
Of course, it’s easier to repeat the catchy phrase than it is to take
the time to understand the facts – but that doesn’t make it alright. So
much of what you read or hear about business has been simplified to
appeal to folks with VERY short attention spans, giving them easy
answers….which is pretty smart, since those folks aren’t likely to ever
check to see if the “solutions” actually worked…another advantage of
dealing with the short attention span crowd – no accountability!
We
figure that our clients are a little different – they want real
answers. Heck, if you were part of the short attention span crowd you
would never have gotten this far into the website! We actually made a
conscious decision to design the website to filter those folks out
(since they won’t like working with us anyway) – and focus on the kind
of people who have the mental discipline to make a real difference. You
can expect us to help you sort through the conflicting management
theories with you so you can focus on getting results. When one of your
managers points out that you are not following the management theory of
the month, we can help you explain why you (and they) don’t need to be
distracted by that particular theory, and why everyone can now get back
to making a positive difference.
